Barbara is a Trustee for the Donald Woods Foundation, a registered charity that was set up in 2003, in the memory of journalist and anti-apartheid campaigner, Donald Woods. They work with partners across the Eastern Cape to develop programmes in health and education and to strengthen and enable communities to run these programmes themselves.
The Foundation’s work in health and education began geographically in the area of Donald Woods’s birth, and has since spread to include 10,000 square km of the deep rural Eastern Cape. Historically, this region has been left with some of the worst social and economic legacies of colonialism and apartheid.
